Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant Opportunity at Idasa
Idasa is an independent public interest organisation committed to promoting sustainable democracy based on active citizenship, democratic institutions, and social justice. Idasa’s Economic Governance Programme (EGP) aims to put the politics back into economics - to address the current democratic deficit in the way that decisions are made about economic policy, broadly defined as the allocation and distribution of scarce resources, and access to, and regulation of, markets. The mission of EGP is to democratise economic decision-making processes and resource management through sustained citizen engagement, to achieve sustainable socioeconomic justice in Africa.
The EGP is seeking to engage a
Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant
to lead the strategy and direction for a project titled,
The Right to Know, the Right to Education
, aimed at creating an enabling space for people in seven key, low income African societies to claim their "right to know" by promoting the right to access quality, basic education.
Areas of work:
The EGP will seek to engage at least two consultants looking into one or more of the following:
Monitoring parental involvement in children’s access to basic education in marginalized communities.
Budget analysis and tracking expenditure in the education sector.
Monitoring the institutional capacity and development of Idasa’s partner organisations to carry out work around access to quality basic education.
Monitoring the work of partners in promoting the appreciation of the role of the Right to Know in the development of rightsbased education policies.
Necessary qualifications
The successful candidate(s) will have
A Master’s degree in any of the social sciences
Three to five years professional experience in the field of budget analysis and tracking
Three to five years professional experience in working in access to education, particularly basic/primary education.
Additional qualities
Generally, proven experience in conducting M and E work in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The consultant must demonstrate an appreciation and understanding of challenges faced by citizens in Sub-Sahara Africa, such as poverty, HIV and AIDS, lack of access to information and social accountability
The consultant(s) must cite previous M and E work done and the resulting achievements/impact.
